Job Title: Wood Machinist
Central Employment are currently working with a bespoke furniture manufacturer and designer, based in Cramlington. The company operate on a national scale in other areas across the UK.
They are looking for a skilled wood machinist for their well-established, precision-based factory with loyal staff awaits the ideal candidate to join their growing team.
Summary of Role
The wood machinist role will be responsible for using a range of techniques and materials to manufacture and produce high quality wooden furniture frame components. These will be for traditional upholstered pieces, both from the standard range and within the bespoke service.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Making pieces using a variety of hardwood materials as per the job order specification and checking finished work is to the required specifications
- Responsible for safely and correctly setting up machinery and tools; cross cut and rip saws, 2 side and 4 side planning machines, spindle moulders and sanding equipment.
- Sawing and cutting wood using specialist equipment and techniques to ensure they meet the required size and length.
- Starting machines, adjust controls and making trial cuts to ensure that machinery is operating properly
- Monitor operation of machines, correcting problems and ensuring conformance to specifications.
- Feed stock through feed mechanisms, shaping to produce desired components
Skills & Qualifications (Essential & Desirable)
- Proven experience in the set up and operation of conventional wood machinery
- Ideally experienced in using and programming a variety of machines from an industrial / woodmill background
- Knowledge of the properties of various wood materials
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Problem solving and quick decision making
- Able to work well in a team environment
Shifts & Pay
- £13.56 per hour
- 39 hours per week; condensed Monday to Thursday 7am-5.15pm
- (30 min unpaid lunch, 2x paid tea breaks)
